Arctic char and beautiful views
|

|
The summer fishing in south Greenland is magic. There are so many chars. Strong fishes in green and red colour head for the river, and the want to bite for sure.
We have chosen different spots, where lakes are attached to crystal clear rivers, and where fishing for arctic char is superb.
- Crystal clear rivers with lots of arctic char
- Fishing directly in the fjord catching big cod weighing up to ten pounds
- Staying in nice and beautiful suited hostels in double rooms

Day 1: Arrival Greenland
From Copenhagen we fly directly to Narsarsuaq. Shortly after arrival we drive to the harbour, from where we sail towards the south Greenland fishing paradise. Along the way pas the beautiful Qooroq Ice fjord, from where we can see the active glacier which produces 200.000 tons of ice a day. We arrive at Itilleq, where our luggages are being picked up, and we walk ourselves along the Kingroad to the small village Igaliku, which will be our base the next three days.
|
Day 2-3: Fishing in Igaliku
In Igaliku we live among the 40 inhabitants in a newly restored hostel with a beautiful view over the valley and the fjord. We will be fishing in the nearby river and lake. It is on this part of the trip that we get very close to the Greenland society.
|
Day 4-6: Fishing in Ipiutaq
We continue our trip heading for the small “fåreholdersted" Ipiutaq. From here it is possible to walk for about 30 minutes to fish the nearby river. The river is extremely beautiful, crystal clear and full of big strong Arctic Chars. When staying in Ipiutaq we also have the possibility to fish in the fjord just outside the cabins. It is possible to fish from the rocks above water that is more than 300 feet deep. Suddenly it is possible to catch really big cods standing on firm ground.
|
Day 7: Back to Narsarsuaq and exclusive Greenland Buffet.
This day we head back to Narsarsuaq. We will be eating on the city hotel, where we will be served a Greenland buffet. We will be staying at Narsarsauq Hostel.
|
Day 8: Heading for Home.
Today is our last day at the great green island. We will leave Greenland — flying out of Narsarsuaq.
|
Fishing Gear
Flyrods aftm 4-6, floating lines and 1-2X 9ft leaders. Bring a couple of sinking polyleaders. Flies: Still haven’t seen the fly that doesn’t work in Greenland. Dryflies, streamers, poppers, nymphs etc. Spinning gear: Light short rods with for example 0.12-0.18 mm fireline. Any kind of lures under 20 gram. Strong colours generally work well. When we have the chance to fish the fjord it is a good idea to bring some heavier lures from 40-100 gram.
|
Accommodation
During the entire trip we will be staying at hostels. You need to bring a sleeping bag. On this trip it is very important for us that we sleep and eat very well. That is why we have chosen to stay in hostels rather than camping in tents in the same arrier. It is important to mention that we are as much in the middle of the arctic nature, as if we where camping in tents. The hostels we are staying on is located in beautiful places and far from public roads.
|
Meals
Meals: We will be cooking the meals ourselves. It can be lamb, reindeers, whale and of course char.
|
Transportation
We sail between Narsarsuaq, Igaliku and Ipiutaq.
|
Climate
The middle temperature will be around 15 to 20 degrees Celsius in the day, and 5 to 10 in the night. Because of the sun and the dry air it might feel warmer. At this time of the year it is mostly clear weather with beautiful views, but rain can occur.
