Climate
The average day and night temperature in Eqi, Ilulissat and area for June and July is about 11 degrees C. The nights are generally cold but as the sun gains power during the day, temperatures often rise over this average. Due to the sun and dry air these temperatures feel warmer than they would further south in Europe. Night temperatures can occasionally reach freezing point. Rain can of course occur but at this time of year the weather is generally dry and clear giving us a good visibility.

Necessary Equipment
|
Luggage
You are allowed to bring 20 kg + 5 kg hand luggage on the flight. The measures of the hand luggage are 55 cm x 20 cm x 40 cm. We recommend that you pack as little as possible. It is most convenient to pack your belongings in a duffle bag or large backpack, since it is easier to transport in relation to transfer and on board the ship. However, it is possible to bring a hard suitcase on this tour. For day trips in Ilimanaq and Ilulissat we recommend bringing a day backpack of 30-40 litres.
|
Hiking boots
Solid hiking boots with a rough patterned hard sole and good ankle support is recommended, as the terrain can be very uneven and slippery with no tracks. Be sure your boots are proper worn in shape. It is a good idea to travel with your boots on or to carry them in the hand luggage in case of your luggage being delayed.
|
Other footwear
Light footwear — e.g. sandals - to change into at the end of the day or on hikes as we will be crossing streams and small rivers. So your sandals should be water resistant.
|
Water bottle
You can bring one or more 0.1 or 1 litre bottles containing the total amount of 1.5 litre. There is plenty of fresh water available, while we are walking, but at the end of the season springs can dry out.

It is very individual whether you have the benefits of using hiking staffs. The staffs can relieve your knees by descents. Others do use staffs only by ascents. Only at times when hiking through rocky passages where you need to use your hands supporting your balance, the staffs can be in the way.

Average hiking day
We start early by checking the map and deciding where we will meet for our first break. When we head out, it is important that you keep a pace and rhythm that suit you. After each break we will agree on the next break. There will be a lunch break of about one hour duration where the entire group is united. The tour leader will normally stay in the back, and only in front if necessary to lead the way.
|
Tour leader
The tour leader has the overall responsibility for taking a group into the mountains and back again. Therefore, we hope that you will respect advices and help the tour leader. Although the conduction of the tour relies on good preparation from our part, the main influence for its success depends on your enthusiasm and co-operation.
